Robotics teams succeed at Nationals

Members of the St Paul’s International Robotics Club went down to Melbourne to compete in the VEX EDR and VEX IQ Australian National Championships from 1-2 December 2018.

A total of 17 students participated from St Paul’s, who fielded a total of 3 senior (EDR) and one junior (IQ) team at the competition.

Two of the senior EDR teams finished just outside of the qualification bracket for the semi-finals (17th and 18th out of 51 teams), which is a fantastic effort with most students commencing robotics this year.

The junior IQ team, in their first year in the competition, performed consistently throughout the tournament and were successful in winning the Amaze Award with their robot "Mantis":

“ The Amaze Award is presented to a team that has built an amazing, high-scoring robot that clearly demonstrates overall quality. Key criteria:

  • Robot design is consistently high scoring
  • Robot demonstrates a solid mechanical design and is robustly constructed to fulfill its designed task
  • Robot programming is consistently effective and successful
  • Students understand and explain how they worked together to develop their robot”      https://www.roboticseducationireland.com/awards-iq

This is a fantastic effort by all involved and promises great things for the future of Robotics at St Paul’s International College. A thank-you to Mr Planting and Ms Fittler for taking the students down to Melbourne and to Sr Angelina and the executive for their support of our club.
