We were lucky enough to have Mr Brad Hall from the UNSW Science faculty come to the College to give our students a demonstration on the work being done by UNSW engineering students. They are currently developing robots to play soccer! (You can see an example in the photo below and a robot in the shape of a dog on the desk.) They are also working on a solar powered car. While this is a lot of fun and UNSW is globally leading the way in this type of research, it has serious applications. Recently one of their students used this research to develop a way to keep dangerous working environments safer and reduce industrial accidents.
Mr Hall also spoke about the various Science degrees offered at UNSW including engineering and computing. He gave students a good idea of the diverse career opportunities available to them upon graduation and advice on how to succeed. High marks are not the only criteria for success. Mr Hall advised students to participate in a broad range of activities and polish their social skills in addition to study.
